FACT CHECK: Tom Kean Jr. Still Wants Members of Congress to be Able to Sell Individual Stocks
And he still has not honored his original campaign promise to put his assets into a blind trust
SOMERVILLE, NJ — Today, Rebecca Bennett, former Navy Helicopter pilot, healthcare leader, and mom of two, released a statement after Congressman Kean Jr. voted for legislation that does not ban members of Congress from holding or selling individual stocks and making a profit off of their positions of power.
Let’s not forget, Congressman Tom Kean Jr. traded up to $340,000 worth of stocks in June both during and after his absence from Congress.
“Congressman Tom Kean Jr. has always put his bottom line ahead of the people he serves. Four years ago, he promised he’d put his assets in a blind trust. He broke that promise, and he made 18 stock trades just last month,” said Rebecca Bennett. “Don’t let today’s vote fool you. He has become part of the culture of corruption in Washington that he once claimed he was running against. I’ve divested all of my individual stocks and pledged to fight to ban individual stock trading altogether because I want New Jerseyans to know exactly who I serve.”
