RAHWAY, NJ — Tomorrow, Rebecca Bennett and Congressman Tom Kean Jr. will take the stage in the only debate of this campaign. Over the summer, Rebecca challenged Tom to six debates — one in each of the counties he represents. No surprise, but he’s only accepted one. This weekend, New Jerseyans’ have their opportunity to hold him accountable for his record of putting his party over the people he represents.
“Rebecca’s ready to take the stage tomorrow night to outline her vision for how to lower costs for New Jerseyans, get corruption out of Washington, and work across the aisle to put country over party. This debate is also one of the few times voters get to hear directly from Tom Kean Jr. himself, so Rebecca’s ready to hold him accountable for his record of jacking up healthcare costs while prioritizing his stock portfolio,” said Carly Jones, Communications Director, Rebecca Bennett for Congress.
THREE QUESTIONS WE HAVE FOR THE CONGRESSMAN:
- Why did Tom Kean Jr. vote to kick thousands off of their healthcare and drive up premiums for the rest of us? Tom Kean Jr. cast the deciding vote on Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, which will kick up to 300,000 New Jerseyans off Medicaid and is driving ACA premiums up for nearly half a million New Jerseyans. Tens of thousands of New Jerseyans have already dropped their coverage after costs went up thanks to Tom Kean Jr.’s vote. And cuts to medicaid will devastate access to mental healthcare for millions of Americans across the country.
- Why is he still trading stocks? Despite his original promise to put his assets into a blind trust, Tom Kean Jr. has become one of the most prolific stock traders in Congress. He’s made over $3 million in stock trades, including in the healthcare and energy sectors, even while voting to cut healthcare and give tax breaks to data centers. And he’s done so despite spending taxpayer dollars on mailers to mislead voters about his record.
- What’s Tom Kean Jr.’s plan to bring down gas prices after voting 3x to continue Trump’s war with Iran? Trump and Kean Jr. ran on a promise for lower costs and no more forever wars. Now, we’re on month six of a war with Iran, gas is more than $4.50/gallon for New Jerseyans, and diesel’s reached record prices. Time and again, Tom’s voted to support Trump’s war. What’s his excuse?
