Navy Helicopter Pilot Rebecca Bennett Announces Launch of “Veterans for Rebecca” Coalition to Flip New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District

SOMERVILLE, NJ — Today, a group of veterans from New Jersey’s 7th district and across the state are coming together as “Veterans for Rebecca” to support former Navy helicopter pilot Rebecca Bennett’s campaign for Congress. These veterans served in different branches, locations, and held different roles across our military. But they have one thing in common: they are proud veterans and New Jerseyans who are focused on electing Rebecca because she has spent her life putting her country first.

“I am grateful and honored to have the support of veterans in NJ-07 and all across the state. In the military, we never ask what party you belong to because we’re there as Americans to serve our nation. We’ve sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Right now, politicians in Washington have gotten us into another foreign war with no clear plan, no objectives, and no exit strategy. It’s more important than ever that we have a new generation of leaders in Washington who understand the stakes, will stand up for servicemembers, veterans, and military families, and put country over party. That’s why I’m running,” said Rebecca Bennett.

Hear what local veterans are saying:

“Who better to have this seat than someone who put her life on the line for it. I am proud to support Rebecca Bennett for Congress because she understands the mission! To make life better for servicemembers, veterans, and all New Jerseyans,” — Debbie, CTT USN, Warren County.

“I’m supporting Rebecca because I spent 20 years of a military career at war. Following the withdrawal from Afghanistan that was derided by Republicans as chaotic (after they were the ones that started the war), they’ve decided to send my friends back to war again with no clear guidance or leadership. The Republican establishment, particularly Tom Kean Jr., has no desire to use their powers to restrict the executive from dragging us further into war while they profit from wild swings in commodities markets. Rebecca knows what it’s like fighting for something you believe in, we need Congress to rediscover its conscience,” — Joe, Lt Col (Ret) USAF, Westfield.

“To me, a combat veteran who served with the 7th Marines in Vietnam  1967-1969 and with the Army 3rd Corps during Iraqi Freedom 2003- 2004, Rebecca Bennett, a veteran, represents the very best of America.  A veteran and mother, standing up with courage and honor, Rebecca is fighting for decency, honesty, and justice, to make our country a better place. It’s time for all of us, especially veterans, to stand up with her,” — Philip, Capt. USA/USMC ret., Mendham.

“I’m a proud Air National Guard Veteran, and now my son is serving in the Air Force. I’m supporting Rebecca because she will fight for veterans, servicemembers, and military families like mine. Rebecca will bring a much-needed perspective to Washington and work across the aisle to bring real change to New Jersey,” — Susan, USAFR, Sparta.

“I know Rebecca Bennett’s mission will be the well-being of New Jerseyans and all Americans; and, as a fellow military officer, I know I can trust her to fight like hell to accomplish that mission,” — John, USMC Veteran, Branchville.

“As a fellow former Navy officer, I know that honor, courage, and commitment aren’t just words—they are an oath you carry for life. Rebecca has never forgotten what it means to put service before self. I’m supporting her because I believe in her quiet resolve, her integrity, and her genuine commitment to doing right by our community,” — Dan, Capt. (Ret) USN, Union Township.

“While getting to know Rebecca, we’ve spoken a lot about how hard the transition to civilian life is after leaving the armed forces. As an educator, doctoral researcher, and veterans’ advocate, I work to elevate veterans’ voices and bring attention to the challenges they face in higher education, mental healthcare, housing, employment, and accessing essential services. I know that I will have a partner in Rebecca in giving our veterans opportunities to build their lives and continue to serve our country and communities after hanging up the uniform,” — Tim, USAF-Veteran, South Orange.
