New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association Endorses Rebecca Bennett in Democratic Primary for Congress
State’s largest firefighters union backed Kean Jr. in 2024
SOMERVILLE, NJ – At its February State Meeting the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA), announced its unanimous endorsement of Navy Helicopter Pilot, healthcare business leader, and mom of two, Rebecca Bennett for Congress, in the Democratic primary for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th congressional district.
NJFMBA previously endorsed Republican Tom Kean Jr. during the 2024 election cycle. The Firefighters union represents over 6,500 career firefighters, EMTs, and dispatchers across New Jersey and is the largest union representing Firefighters and first responders in the state.
“The New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association is proud to endorse Rebecca Bennett for Congress in the crowded primary for Congress in NJ-07 because she has consistently shown she will show up for our firefighters, first responders, and their families. Rebecca listens, she understands the challenges our members face on the job, and we trust her to fight for the protections, benefits, and resources firefighters depend on. With the constant uncertainties in funding or the continuance of programs and grants for our First Responders, we need leaders in Washington that will stand up, fight hard, and not sit quietly on the sidelines. She’s exactly the kind of leader we need representing us in Washington,” said Eddie Donnelly – President, NJFMBA.
“I’m deeply honored to earn the support of the FMBA. As a former Navy helicopter pilot, I put my life on the line to serve this country – that’s exactly what our firefighters and first responders do every single day to make sure families across New Jersey are safe and out of harm’s way”, said Rebecca Bennett. “They deserve a representative who will fight for them with the same courage and commitment they bring to their work. In Congress, I’m ready to follow in Congressman Pascrell’s footsteps and serve as a steadfast advocate for our first responders, ensuring they have the resources and support they need to protect our communities and come home safely to their families.”
The NJFMBA endorsement adds to Bennett’s growing coalition of support, which includes members of Congress such as Pat Ryan, Seth Moulton, Jason Crow, Chris Deluzio, and former Congressman Patrick Murphy; national organizations like VoteVets, New Politics, Vote Mama, The Next 50, Leadership Now, and Taking the Hill PAC; and local leaders throughout the 7th district. This follows Bennett’s endorsements last week from over 30 Hunterdon County Democratic leaders including Assemblymembers, Mayors, and local elected officials. Bennett’s campaign has raised over $2 million, powered by over 10,000 individual donors, with 88.8% giving under $100.
Rebecca Bennett is a former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, officer in the Air National Guard, business leader in healthcare, and mom of two. Rebecca served in the Navy for over a decade as a helicopter pilot and aircraft commander. After serving her country for over fifteen years in the military and making waves in healthcare innovation, Rebecca is running for Congress to build a better future for our community. As a mom to two young girls, Rebecca understands first-hand the challenges of balancing work & family while navigating inflation and the rising cost of living.
