New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill Endorses Rebecca Bennett for Congress

Both Governor Sherrill and Rebecca served our country as Navy helicopter pilots; Governor Sherrill carried NJ-07 during her 2025 victory

Bridgewater, NJ – Today, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill formally endorsed former Navy helicopter pilot, healthcare leader, and mom of two, Rebecca Bennett in her campaign to flip New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. Governor Sherrill and Rebecca have combined more than two decades of service to our country as military officers.

“Rebecca Bennett knows what it means to put service above self from her time as a Navy helicopter pilot, and she’s stepping up to serve once again because New Jersey families deserve a leader in Congress who will actually fight for them,” said Governor Mikie Sherrill. “I always say that if you want to get something done, all you have to do is ask a mom and a helicopter pilot – and we’ve got one right here. Congressman Tom Kean Jr. isn’t fighting for New Jersey families. Rebecca will. This is one of the most important races in the country, and it’s how we will take back the House majority. I’m proud to endorse Rebecca.”

“Governor Mikie Sherrill and I both honed our leadership serving in the Navy. This is one of the most important elections in the country to regain control of the House and hold the Trump administration accountable. I’m so grateful to have Governor Sherrill with me in this fight and together, we will flip this seat in November and deliver real leadership and results for the families of our district,” said Rebecca Bennett.

Rebecca overwhelmingly won the Democratic nomination despite Republicans spending $650K to try and stop her from becoming the nominee out of fear that she will defeat Congressman Tom Kean Jr. in November in one of the country’s most closely watched House races. Nonpartisan race raters agree that New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District is one of Democrats’ best pick up opportunities in the entire country. Cook Political Report rates NJ-07 as a toss-up race, and Inside Elections recently shifted their rating of the race to Tilt Democratic citing momentum behind Rebecca’s campaign.

Rebecca Bennett, Democratic Nominee for Congress in NJ-07, is a former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, officer in the Air National Guard, business leader in healthcare, and mom of two. Rebecca served in the Navy for over a decade as a helicopter pilot and aircraft commander. After serving her country for over fifteen years in the military and making waves in healthcare innovation, Rebecca is running to unseat Tom Kean, Jr. to build a better future for our community. As a mom to two young girls, Rebecca understands first-hand the challenges of balancing work & family while navigating inflation and the rising cost of living.
